Mint!!! thanks for sharing.I had this when I was a kid and it scared the shit out of me at night.I had to have my mom make sure its face was facing the wall in my closet at night before i went to sleep.Still it was my favorite toy.

A great toy, although strange! The box is made so you can cut out a hole and the cardboard piece is used as a serving tray. When stored in the box, you can see his face staring at you, and I’m sure he scared many kids. Thanks for viewing my vid.

    I’m curious
as to where Marx toys got the name The Great GarLoo from?
    I’m also curious
as to how much he must’ve cost back then too.

Garloo was made in 1961 and the commercials (one here on youtube) shows the suggested retail price of $19.98, and that was a LOT of money back then, especially considering, a comic book cost 10 cents and a candy bar cost a nickel. I don’t know how they came up with the name, and even stranger, is why they made a little 3 inch tall wind up (shown in another of my vids) called “Son of Garloo”.

I believe you about the price being alot
of money back then!Remember back when Star Wars toys got made?I wanted the Millinnum
Falcon, but it was 36 bucks!
My Parents decided to give me an allowance of a buck.
    How am I suppose
to save up anything on a buck, I thought to myself.
    So I never
    did get the Millinnum Falcon.

My brother and I each got a Great Garloo and a Robot Commando for Xmas that year 9′61). Both sets of grandparents bought us dupes, so we had one of each. Those were the days!

Man, I wish that I was you or your brother back then! These toys were expensive then and to get both is really cool! I bet you and your brother had “Garloo vs. Robot Commando” battles!

Yup, Ol’ Garloo is an ugly, but he now is a vintage collectible and worth big bucks! He can be ugly as hell, as far as I’m concerned!

Of course we had every scenario you could think of! Robot on robot, or robot on Garloo! We were very fortunate. Thanks AGAIN for the blast from the past!!!

Probably for those who couldn’t afford $19.98.

My friend had this and I always wanted to play with it whenever I came over his house. Most of the time I didn’t because he was tired of it.

I hear ya! My friends had this and similar toys (we weren’t rolling in bucks and I never got one) and they bored easily of them and didn’t want to play with them while I stood there drooling!

I’ll bet the 3 inch windup “Son of Garloo” was geared to a more middle class budget.

    Lionel had a slogan,

    “A LIFETIME INVESTMENT IN HAPPINESS”

It’s seems that may be said of many of our childhood treasures.
