You REALLY think so? What gave it away? LOL!

I think as long as you’re NOT trying to pawn off your recarded and reproduced stuff as original vintage items, it’s totally fine.

With the outrageously high price of actually buying vintage items, I can understand why collectors who just want to have a cool-looking collection would opt for repro stuff.

Collectors should be able to collect the way they want!

I like the recarding idea. I just cant afford to go out and buy all original MOC figures. At least if the kids and wife want to eat regularly =Þ Right now all my loose figures are stuck in cases, because I hate dusting them. Carding them would make life easier when I display them. I just bought a CD off ebay with card fronts and backs, still waiting for it to get here.

i like the idea of recarding as you can get more money for them when they are left in the box so yes i love the idea

I can see why some people like to re card their figures. I just wish they would label them with a watermark on the back somewhere that it was a reproduction, so as time goes by or they are sold they could not be passed off as the real thing.

You nailed it here. I could PROBABLY afford a complete set of original carded ROTJ and ESB figures if I built my collection over a period of a several years, but I could NEVER afford to build a collection of original carded ANH figures. The prices for the carded ANH figures are just INSANE!

Anyway, good to hear from you again Andrew. I just checked out your “Ewok Gospel Secrets” video here on youtube. VERY COOL. If anybody is reading this and hasn’t seen it yet, they need to check it out!

I’ve seen the CD on ebay that you’re talking about. Maybe after you get it you could post on here and let everybody know if you like it or not. I’d be interested to know how many cardback images it has, and if the image quality is good enough to make good print-outs.

Well, it came today. I havent printed anything yet, but the images are super clear. Even when opened in paint, and they are about 3x the size of the card they look great. There are about 145 total pics (card fronts and backs). A few are in an “extras” folder, customs I think. One I noticed (2-1B) looked kind of like it was scanned with a piece of clear tape on it or something, but still looks great. Seller name was allinfun2008. It was like 6 bucks total with shipping, so cant beat that.

Sounds like you’re well on your way to making replica cardbacks then. If you need to know anything about recarding your figures that wasn’t covered in my 3-part recarding tutorial, just let me know and I’ll be glad to help out.

Also, be sure to enter the vintage figure give-aways that Princess Midori runs on the show every month, and that might be one less figure that you have to recard yourself. She’s going to start her next contest on this coming Mondays episode.

    Any recommended source for blisters/bubbles?

I think recarding is great for display. and ok for sale as long as the seller states item as recard. Besides, recarding can add new excitement to your starwars hobby. It has for me, and I haven’t got any cards or bubbles to get started yet.

Go to ebay and search: “star wars blister”. Then just check out the listings towards the bottom of the page in the ebay seller stores. There are 3 or 4 ebay stores that carry them. I don’t deal with any one seller. I just always look for the lowest prices. All sellers carry the same bubbles. There are about 13 different bubble styles to choose from, so be sure you get the right one for the figure you’re recarding. If you’re not sure which one you need, just email the seller and they’ll tell you.

Trust me, you’re going to love it. Your recarded collection will look awesome on display. The actual recarding process is pretty fun too!

i think recard is just another step up from just having a loose figure. But only for figures worth putting in the package. for example i would card a blue snaggletooth or any 12 backs but i would not do any rotj figures because you can buy most of those cheap enough that you do not have to recard.

You have a good point about ROTJ figures being cheap enough to buy in original packaging, but the only problem with that is the fact that many of the carded ROTJ figures you find are on beat-up cards or have yellowed bubbles.

That’s why I decided to go ahead and recard an entire ROTJ set after I complete my ANH and ESB sets. That way my whole collection will be on perfect, unpunched cardbacks with nice clear bubbles.

I would prefer having original carded figures, but I would not mind having a recard in my collection. I buy damaged/bad conditioned figures and carded figures from ebay for low price and I restore them best I can.

I just watched the video of your collection and it’s AWESOME! I usually don’t care much for loose diplays (most people here already know that I prefer recards), but the way you’ve displayed your loose collection is just SO COOL. Those glass cases look really nice, and they fit the vintage figures perfectly. Thanks for posting that video. I’m sure alot of collectors are going to love it.

Also, I see that you’ve subscribed to the show here, so welcome aboard!

How can one tell the difference between a vintage card and re-card?

    Reply

  25. bringbacktheterraces

The re-cards look fun, however I just stuck to the loose figures.

Back in the 1980’s in England Palitoy would do “special offers” where you sent them a part of the card to get a new figure or accessory, so most of my cards got desecrated!
